Our introduction to essential oils..  the trimmed down version of what an essential oil is and what it may be able to do for you.

What is an essential oil?

So, what is an essential oil? Let’s do a little aromatic imagery to help answer this.

Think about the last time you were zesting a lemon rind for a recipe.  Do you remember the wonderful aroma that was released?  How did it make you feel?  Did it make you want to stop and just enjoy the clean fresh scent for a few minutes?  Maybe it made you feel a little energized?  Are you still asking what an essential oil is?

Next think about the aroma released from one of your favorite plants.  Rose, jasmine, lavender..  close your eyes and think about your favorite for a minute.  Now let’s talk about lavender in particular.  Again, close you eyes and think about how the scent of lavender makes you feel.  Don’t think about the lavender scented everything you can find at the store.. I mean a real lavender plant.  Did you find the aroma relaxing?  Maybe your anxious feelings started to drift away?  Were you feeling relaxed to the point where you could have fallen asleep with this wonderful aroma near by?

So what was it about the lemon and the lavender that may have made you feel this way?  These wonderful feelings came from the essential oils released by the lemon rind and the lavender plant.

Uses and potential benefits of essential oils

The uses and benefits of essential oils and essential products are so numerous that I could not possibly list them in this short introduction.  We will dive into more throughout this site and through some great e-course and goodies though… so stay with me.  Every oil has it’s own properties, uses and potential benefits.  This list will not apply for every oil…  it is meant to be a sneak peak of what you are opening up into your world by letting essential oils into your life.

Essential oils may:

  • clean, purify, or destroy germs
  • reduce anxious feelings or feelings of self-doubt
  • reduce feelings of stress or tension
  • create a sense of calm
  • support the immune system and healthy body functions at many levels
  • support the immune system during times of seasonal and environmental threats
  • contribute to preventative health along with a healthy diet and routine medical care

Essential oils can be used aromatically, topically and internally.  Most people are aware of the term aromatherapy.. but there is so much more to essential oils.

If you have never tried diffusing an essential oil for aromatic use I highly recommend it. I use my diffuser ever single day and even take it with me on vacation. It is the mildest way to start experimenting with essential oils and it is how I fell in love with them.  Not ready for a diffuser?  There are so many other ways to take advantage of the aromatic effects of essential oils.  From scented oils to aromatherapy jewelry there is something for everyone.. and a scent for everyone.

As you start to learn and experiment with essential oils please keep in mind that everyone will not have the same response to the same oil. What works for me may not be what works for you.  With experimentation we will find something to help with whatever issue you are trying to work on.  Together we will find something for you!  I look forward to guiding you on your journey.
